You talk to an independent HVAC provider in our network. It is a local business, not Rulesposition Heating & Air. The provider answers your questions, visits your home, and does any work. Rulesposition Heating & Air makes the introduction and shares the checklist.
First, you describe the problem. Next, the provider asks follow-up questions. Then you talk about timing and the next step.
Expect questions like these:
If you smell gas or see smoke, leave the home and contact your gas utility or emergency services first.
Use this list. Each item has a good answer and a warning sign.
1. Are you licensed for this work here? Good: a clear yes, and they can show it. Warning: dodging the question. 2. Is there a fee to come out and diagnose? Good: a plain answer before the visit. Warning: a vague price that changes at the door. 3. Will I get a written quote before work starts? Good: yes, with parts and labor listed. Warning: pressure to approve on the spot. 4. Do you offer a repair option and a replacement option? Good: both, with reasons. Warning: only the costly one, with no explanation. 5. What warranty comes with the parts and the labor? Good: terms you can read. Warning: a promise with nothing in writing.
You can say no at any step. You can ask for a second opinion. You can compare quotes. Be careful with anyone who says the price is only good today.
Costs vary by job. Typical U.S. ranges can be wide, so always get the number in writing.
